RAM: Random Access Memory
RAM is short for random access memory. It is the component of the computer that has the job of finding and controlling data for a given time until the processor can use the data. It is also the most popular choice of memory used in computers. The RAM's function is to take data from a source in the computer and then send that data to its necessary destination. It is like a distributer between the harddrive and the CPU. The RAM's purpose is to allow the computer to process many pieces of information and operations all at once, which improves the computers effectiveness. The effect that RAM has on end users is that it is important for the computers overall speed. The better the RAM, the faster students will be able to get school work done because of less irritating buffering and freezing taking place. It also allows students to do more than one job at once on the computer. This fact makes schoolwork much more easier to do because more than one window or program can be running at a single time. This example is a handy tool for when students are organizing thoughts, work or even notes on the computer. This claim would help get student's schoolwork done with more ease. When buying a computer, look for RAM that has a high frequency (1600- 2100), appropriate voltage (no more than 1.65V) and low timings (for example, CL7-6-6-18 or CL7-7-6-18 (the lower the numbers, the better)). Also, make sure to look for an overall amount of RAM that is at least 2 GB. For a higher performance system, look for 4 GB RAM, at least.
